Deputies: Don't use a fake ID to bond your buddy out of jail

St. Tammany Parish Sheriff's deputies booked a New York man on charges of fraudulent credit card use, and got a bonus arrest when the man who showed up to post his bond used a fake ID to do it, authorities said Friday.

"Monday, deputies with the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff's Patrol Division were called to a Covington-area store after employees there observed a man matching the description of an individual who had been using fraudulent credit cards at other stores in the region," sheriff's office spokesperson Suzanne Carboni said.

The suspect refused to provide his name, but Carboni says detectives learned that 32-year-old Renandson Parfait of New York had used fraudulent cards in at least three stores in the Covington area.

Carboni says Parfait's suspected accomplice, 40-year-old Alan Artist, AKA Robert Grant, also of New York, used a fake ID when trying to bond Parfait out of the St. Tammany Parish Jail.

Deputies booked Parfait on charges including credit card fraud, identity theft, resisting arrest, and more. Grant was booked on charges including possession of a fake ID, obstruction of justice, and resisting an officer.

The sheriff's office says a search of Parfait's vehicle led to the discovery of more than 70 fraudulent credit cards and gift cards.

Investigators believe Parfait has committed these crimes in several states, and more charges may be coming.
