Emily Brown Gets 35 Years For Killing Ex-Boyfriend in 2022 Shooting. RISON - Emily Brown, 32, of Broken Arrow, Okla., was found guilty of first degree murder and sentenced to 35 years in prison last Friday for the August 2022 shooting death of her ex-boyfriend, Christopher Miller, 38, of Greenwood. The shooting took place in the Macedonia community south of Rison.A jury of seven women and five men deliberated for about an hour before coming back with a guilty verdict Friday evening to conclude the four-day trial, said County Clerk Brandy Herring.After rendering the guilty verdict, Herring said they deliberated for about another hour in the sentencing phase, delivering the 35-year prison sentence at 8:26 p.m. Friday. First degree murder is a Class Y felony punishable by 10 to 40 years to life in prison and/or a fine of up to $25,000.According to court testimony and the police affidavit from the Cleveland County Sheriff's Department's investigation, Brown had asked Miller to meet her at her father's house in the Macedonia community south of Rison to allow him him some time to spend with the four-year-old son they had together. According to the affidavit, the Cleveland County Sheriff's Department received a call at about 6:15 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 6, 2022, about an individual being shot outside a residence at 500 Brown Road, about seven miles south of Rison. When law enforcement arrived, they found Miller dead in the yard of the residence with multiple gunshot wounds.According to the investigation, James Brown, the father of Emily Brown, said Miller had come to his home after his daughter had called Miller about allowing him to have their fouryear-old son for a few days.After Miller arrived, James Brown told police that an argument developed between Emily and Miller, and she fired several gunshots, some of which struck Miller.Miller's stepfather, Ferlon Newsom, had driven Miller to Brown's home from Alabama and was on the premises when the shooting occurred.
