Jodi Middleton is the Lincoln County winner in the “2023-2024 Grandparent of the Year” essay contest.

This contest is an annual event for Kentucky 5th grade students in which they submit essays answering why “My Grandparent should be the AARP Kentucky Grandparent of the Year.”

Jodi is a student in Amy Shackleford’s 5th grade class at Crab Orchard Elementary.  She is the daughter of Steve and Brittani Middleton.  Her winning essay is written in honor of her grandmother, Mary Middleton.

The essay contest is sponsored by AARP Kentucky and the Kentucky Retired Teachers Association (KRTA).  Jodi and her family attended the June 18 meeting of the Lincoln County Retired Teachers Association (LCRTA) where she was awarded a certificate and a Walmart gift card for her winning essay by Susan Johnson, LCRTA President.  Jodi’s teacher will also receive a gift card.

The essay competition is a unique way to recognize the significant contributions that older Kentuckians make toward shaping the lives and values of youth across the Commonwealth.
