LIMA, OH (WLIO) - Lima organizations gather downtown to show kids a merry time. For several years, The Meeting Place on Market, alongside partners like the Lima Public Library and YES FM, has put on "Christmas in July." The cafe had plenty of festive drinks and desserts for sale, and there were lots of free activities for kids like pottery decorating, making your own snow, and holiday coloring pages. Families also listened to live Christmas music. The event is just one way Lima's nonprofits and businesses work together to give back to the kids in the community.
Lima NAACP holds meeting on lead abatement licensing
LIMA, OH (WLIO) - Area residents getting educated on the issue of lead in Allen County homes and what they can do to help. The NAACP held a training session on Friday, showing people what steps to take in order to get their lead abatement license. The class was led by Keith Lockhart, a liaison and contractor for the Ohio Department of Development. Those with a lead abatement license will be certified to properly inspect and remove lead from homes in materials like paint on walls and in window frames. Lead has been shown to cause a long list of health problems. Organizers say with such a serious potential danger, it's important to educate, train, and certify local residents so they can fix these problems before it's too late.

Kewpee owner and president Harry Shutt passes away at 92. He was one of the biggest and often behind-the-scenes supporters of Lima-Allen County and the region. Kewpee Hamburgers owner and president, Harry Shutt, has died. Shutt began working at Kewpee in 1957 and purchased it from the 'Stub' Wilson estate in 1980, which included the downtown Lima location and Allentown Road, with the eastside location opening in 1981.
Salvation Army thanks community for generous support in fundraising campaign
LIMA, OH (WLIO) - Summer is in full swing, but it's not stopping Lima from getting in the holiday spirit. With Christmas under five months away, the Lima Salvation Army is wrapping up its 'Christmas in July' fundraiser that assists those in need. The campaign started back on July 8th and runs through this Saturday at all Chief Markets and Kewpee locations locally. The program relies on the generous help of volunteers, and donations from those who lend a hand to those in need.

OSHP arrests teen who allegedly fled in stolen vehicle, crashed
FINDLAY, Ohio — Ohio State Highway Patrol arrested a 16-year-old suspect early Friday after an alleged stolen vehicle pursuit with authorities that began in Lima. In a press release, OSHP said troopers were conducting routine patrol at approximately 11:55 p.m. Thursday on I-75 in Richland Township near Lima. Troopers identified a vehicle traveling northbound - a 2017 Chevy Impala - that had been previously reported as stolen.

Five individuals were inducted into the Allen County Agriculture Hall of Fame for their decades of success and hard work.
