Sex offender meeting set for Crooked Lake location

CRIVITZ — A community notification meeting regarding the release of a registered sex offender will take place from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Crooked Lake Community Center/Fire Department, 15441 County Trunk W, Crivitz.

The Oconto County Sheriff’s Office released information on the meeting, which pertains to Murry Locke. The sheriff’s office states the release of information will enhance public safety, awareness and protection. Locke is a convicted sex offender, but he not currently wanted by law enforcement.

Locke has has served his incarceration term and is being released to the community on extended supervision on July 15, according to Oconto County Sheriff Todd Skarban. He will be residing on Elkey Road, Crivitz, in the Town of Riverview (Oconto County). His convictions include possession of child pornography, first-degree sexual assault of a child and attempted sexual assault of a child.

“This notification is not intended to increase fear; rather, it is our belief that an informed public is a safer public,” the press release states. “Sex offenders have always lived in our communities; but it was not until Act 440 was enacted that law enforcement was able to share this information with the community. Citizen abuse of this information to threaten, intimidate or harass registered sex offenders will NOT be tolerated.”

At the community notification meeting, members of law enforcement, the Department of Corrections and other public officials will be there to present information and answer questions. Because this meeting is of adult subject matter, it is requested that children not attend.
