BLOOMINGTON, Texas - Bloomington High School will honor Kevin Garza during their graduation commencement on Friday. Garza, who was supposed to graduate with the class of 2024, was tragically killed in 2016.

Garza was 11 years old when he was struck by a car while walking to school on September 27, 2016. The driver fled the scene and remains unidentified. No arrests have been made in connection with the incident.

To commemorate Garza, his mother will walk the stage and accept what would have been his diploma during the ceremony.

The accident occurred along SH-185. Following Garza's death, traffic lights were installed at the site of the incident. Additionally, all Bloomington students are now allowed to ride the bus to school, regardless of how close they live, in an effort to prevent similar accidents.
