LAFAYETTE, La. ( KLFY ) — A Crowley woman has been arrested and charged with sex crimes involving children, authorities said.

Tiffany Bonin, 50, of Crowley, is charged with trafficking of children for sexual purposes, pornography involving juveniles and contributing to the delinquency of juveniles, according to Lafayette Parish’s daily arrest report.

According to the Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Office, Bonin turned herself in to the Lafayette Parish Jail on Monday.

Dr. Dana Hunter, executive director of Louisiana First Foundation , said this sort of horrific crime looks very different in many different cases.

“Most times we think of male traffickers but traffickers can be family members,” Hunter said. “Traffickers can be relatives, aunts, uncles, moms, dads, coworkers, clergy, people in a clergy. So it looks very different, and we can’t put it in a box because traffickers are becoming more crafty and harming our children and those with disabilities, those in a system involving youth. Those in foster care and so we have to continue to raise awareness and educate our family members, our children, about this crime.”

LPSO has declined to provide any further information.

Jenny Guidry, a teacher and Crowley resident, said it’s always shocking to hear that someone is trafficking children.

“I think it’s especially shocking to hear that a woman is,” Guidry said. “I know what happens. Somebody does it and it’s just appalling that anybody would hurt a child.”

If you suspect any suspicious activity or if you are involved in a trafficking situation, you can seek help at the National Human Trafficking Hotline , which is 1-888-373-7888.
