Heat advisory for North Alabama from Wednesday to Friday
On Tuesday at 1:37 p.m. the National Weather Service issued a heat advisory valid from Wednesday 1 p.m. until Friday 7 p.m. for Lauderdale, Colbert, Franklin, Lawrence, Limestone, Madison, Morgan, Marshall, Jackson, DeKalb and Cullman counties. The weather service says, "Heat index values between 102 and 108 degreesF are expected."
Cullman County woman dies in Morgan County wreck involving Gadsden man
A Baileyton woman died Monday afternoon in a three-car crash in Morgan County that involved a Gadsden man, according to a news release from the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency. Brenda R. Reed, 78, was injured when her 1999 GMC Sonoma was struck at 5:39 p.m. by a 2017 Nissan Titan driven by 34-year-old Aaron S. Barnes of Gadsden on Alabama Highway 67 near Hulaco Road, about 5 miles west of Arab.

Legendary local coach Dafford Smith dies at 88
CULLMAN, Ala. – One of the community’s most respected sports figures, Cullman County Hall of Fame Coach Dafford Smith, died Sunday at the age of 88. Smith spent decades across his coaching career impacting countless lives throughout the community and his legacy still holds firm to this day, most notably in the form of Dafford Smith Stadium, the home field of the Fairview Aggies. After serving as West Point’s varsity football coach from 1973-76, Smith joined Cullman High School’s coaching staff as an assistant on the undefeated 1985 Bearcats team. Just one year later, Smith accepted the position as Fairview’s head football coach. Over the next 12 seasons, Smith led the Aggies to a pair of regional championships and the first 10-win season in program history in 1994. Smith retired from coaching in 2006 after spending three seasons as St. Bernard’s head football coach.

Man wanted in Cullman Co. murder, victim identified
CULLMAN COUNTY, Ala. (WBRC) - Cullman County Sheriff’s deputies are looking for a man accused of a deadly shooting in the Vinemont area. A murder warrant has been issued for 20-year-old Jamarion Allen Harrison. The victim, identified by the Cullman County Coroner’s Office as 29-year-old Dylan Bomberry-Wright, of Vinemont, was shot and killed July 1.
Vinemont man dead after shooting; CCSO searching for suspect
CULLMAN, Ala. – A shooting on July 1 in the Vinemont area resulted in the death of Dylaan Bomberry-Wright, 29, of Vinemont. The Cullman County Sheriff’s Office is searching for suspect Jamarion Allen Harrison, 20, of Birmingham. The CCSO said deputies and investigators responded to the report of a shooting in the Vinemont area on Monday. Cullman County Coroner Jeremy Kilpatrick identified the victim, who was shot and transported to an area hospital where he later died from his injuries. The CCSO said the suspect fled the scene before deputies arrived. A warrant for murder has been issued. According to the CCSO, Harrison and the victim, along with another individual, were together at a residence. A confrontation occurred between Harrison and the victim and ultimately resulted in Harrison allegedly shooting the victim. This is an active and ongoing investigation. Anyone with any information as to the whereabouts of Jamarion Harrison is asked to contact the Cullman County Sheriff’s Office at 256-734-0342.
Cullman County woman killed in Morgan County crash
The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency has released the identity of the woman killed in a Morgan County crash late Monday afternoon. Brenda R. Reed, 78, of Baileyton was critically injured in a multi-vehicle crash when the 1999 GMC Sonoma she was driving hit another vehicle, troopers said. The Sonoma overturned and left the road.
