BLM announces planned destruction of Lane County dam
The Bureau of Land Management has unveiled its plan to take down a rural Lane County dam after deeming it a public safety risk. The Hult Dam is in the Oregon Coast Range about 25 miles northwest of Eugene. It was built over 70 years ago in order to create a logging pond. Now, the BLM says the dam has exceeded its life span and is at risk of failing in the next decade.
Air quality alert for Lane County Cascade Foothills and Cascades of Lane County Saturday
On Friday at 10:40 a.m. an air quality alert was issued valid until Saturday at 5 p.m. for Lane County Cascade Foothills and Cascades of Lane County. "The Lane Regional Air Protection Agency has issued an Air Quality Advisory, which is IN EFFECT UNTIL 5 p.m. SATURDAY. An Air Quality Advisory for Smoke has been issued. Wildfires burning in the region combined with forecasted conditions will cause air quality to reach unhealthy levels at times through Saturday, July 27th. Pollutants in smoke can cause burning eyes, runny nose, aggravate heart and lung diseases, and aggravate other serious health problems. Limit outdoor activities and keep children indoors if it is smoky. Please follow medical advice if you have a heart or lung condition," says the National Weather Service.

LANE AND DOUGLAS COUNTIES, Ore. – Parts of Oregon are seeing a spike in COVID-19 cases right now and state health officials are urging people to be cautious. According to the Oregon Health Authority’s website, Florence, North Bend, and Roseburg are seeing a sustained increase in the amount of COVID-19 tested in those areas’ wastewater samples, with Corvallis also seeing a slight increase. The Centers for Disease Control reported that Oregon, overall, is seeing more COVID cases than the national average and, while there are likely more unreported cases now than there were during the pandemic, more health officials are using a new method for testing for the virus.
