Neighbors ask for Bruce Lake home to be condemned
Neighbors of a dilapidated home off Bruce Lake say its beyond time that it be condemned. Ed and Teresa Mollencupp appealed to county commissioners last week to have such action taken at 990 N. Madison St., Kewanna. They live across the street from the property and were joined by another concerned neighbor, Phil Watterson.
Hidden history discovered in Pulaski Co Courthouse walls
As renovations at the Pulaski County Courthouse in Winamac continue, hidden history is emerging from its walls. Pulaski County Community Development Commission Executive Director Nathan Origer said history is coming back to life, with part of the nearly $12.7 construction contract including the delicate removal and restoration of anything and everything that can be saved in the historic building, including the baseboards, door jams and the judge’s bench.
Plymouth Teams Up with Urban Air for Sensory-Friendly Event Series 'Universal Air'
The City of Plymouth has announced a new collaboration with Urban Air Adventure Park, aiming to serve individuals with disabilities and sensory sensitivities through a specially designed event called Universal Air. This sensory-friendly play day is set to unfold over two Sundays, July 21 and August 18 from 8-10 a.m. at the Urban Air location at 3580 Holly Lane N., as reported by the city's news release.
Culver Town Council Approves Community Crossings Matching Grant Bid
The Culver Town Council members approved a bid for Community Crossings Matching Grant paving projects when they met Wednesday, June 26. The council members opened bids during their regular meeting June 13. Two bids were received. E&B Paving submitted a bid of $327,700 and Phend and Brown submitted a bid of $259,620.
Big Weekend in Knox Planned at Wythogan Park
The City of Knox will have a plethora of entertainment going on this weekend for the public to enjoy. Tonight, a beer garden in Wythogan Park will open at 4 p.m. CT to the public, as the Knox Alumni Reunion will be going on. The Point’n Fingers Band will play live on the Wythogan Park Performance Stage at 7 p.m. CT. Classic to current rock and country rock is expected to be heard while the festivities take place.
Starke County Commissioners Hear Update on Safe Haven Baby Box
The Starke County Commissioners heard an update on a Safe Haven Baby Box being installed in the city of Knox. Last summer, California Township Trustee Sheri Bartoli asked the Starke County Commissioners to fund a Safe Haven Baby Box for Starke County. She stated the nearest baby box was located in Plymouth and believed having one in Starke County would be a great asset to the community. Bartoli explained a baby box is something where young mothers as a last resort would give up their babies instead of abandoning them. She stated a baby box is usually placed at hospitals or fire stations where an alarm is triggered, notifying 911 once the box has been closed.
