Cumberland wins return to early-release Wednesdays
CUMBERLAND – The early-release Wednesday school schedule that many were so fond of will return to Cumberland this fall after the General Assembly approved bills allowing it. The Breeze reported in April that district officials were working on a compromise for a modified schedule amid talks with the Rhode Island Department of Education, but this change marks the full return to the preferred schedule that was run historically.

Tri-County’s May awards night, a special edition of “Inside Look” with the class of 2024’s valedictorian and salutatorian, and the June 6 graduation will run in that order continuously through this Tuesday afternoon, July 2.

EP-Pineview Seniors All-Stars 2024 RI District Two Champs!
The first-ever combined East Providence-Pineview Seniors All Stars team is the District 2 champion for 2024, and is advancing to States. The state tournament will be July 8 to 12 and the bracket and locations are pending. There are five EP players on the combined squad: Jayden Alford, Alexavier Guevara, Brady Silva, Dominic Tavares and John Wooten. EP coaches are Nate Cahoon and TJ Burns. Pineview coaches are Vinnie Howard and Jayden Reynolds. Little League has been combining leagues as overall roster numbers call for consolidation. Dighton-Rehoboth Promotes School Choice
The Dighton-Rehoboth Regional School District is actively promoting school choice. “We are putting on a full court press for school choice students,” Superintendent Bill Runey said at the June 11 school committee meeting. “You approved 25 slots at the high school. We have 18 slots available for next year and we want surrounding communities to know that Dighton-Rehoboth Regional High School is a great destination for them.”

2024 HockomockSports.com Girls Lacrosse Awards recognize the following Franklin High School athletes:. Franklin senior defender Norah MacCallum was the leader of the back line all season for the Panthers, helping them secure a 14th straight league title and extend the program’s Hockomock League win streak to 122 games (dating back to the 2012 season). MacCallum finished the season with 21 ground balls and caused 30 turnovers. The Panthers were second in the Hock, allowing just 159 goals in 22 games (a little over seven per game) despite playing some of the best teams in the state. MacCallum was selected as an all-star by the league’s coaches. Franklin coach Kristin Igoe Guarino said, “Norah was the backbone and leader of our defense. She played a key role in our zone this year and really excelled at getting us the ball back.”
