Texas man accused of impersonating CPS worker to 'gain access to children'
DALLAS - An East Texas man was arrested after authorities say he impersonated a Child Protective Services worker to gain access to children. The Lamar County Sheriff’s Office says it received a report in June of a man impersonating a CPS worker. The impersonator told the victim’s parents that he needed to speak to the child and then was able to ‘gain access to the child,’ according to the sheriff’s office.
City of Commerce Police Chief Beelitz resigns
City of Commerce Police Chief Kalei Beelitz has resigned. The City of Commerce announced his resignation this afternoon. In the news release, Beelitz thanked the community and the city. Beelitz said in the statement “I am leaving to spend time with my family and address matters in my personal life.” Beelitz joined the Commerce Police Department in September 2013. He began to serve as Interim Police Chief in February 2023 and named Police Chief in June 2023. The statement says City of Commerce staff offer Beelitz their full support. The city says it is working with an executive search firm to find a new interim Police Chief.

Sulphur Springs Man Arrested After Stabbing Victim in the Back
On June 30, 2024, Sulphur Springs Police responded to a disturbance at the 600 block of Main Street late Sunday night. Witnesses reported a confrontation involving 67-year-old Robert Earl Ransom and another individual, resulting in the victim being stabbed in the back. According to police statements, after the incident, Ransom allegedly cleaned the knife used in the assault and concealed it inside the residence to obstruct the investigation.
