Kansas City Chiefs: 'Hollywood' Brown cleared post-hospital visit

A lot of story lines surround the Kansas City Chiefs and their wide receiver corps. Regardless of what expectations are for this team, needing to seek emergency medical treatment is not what anyone wishes to see. But for Marquise 'Hollywood' Brown, just one play into the tenure with his new team and playing another down ceased to be an option. His debut showed a brief glimpse of why football fans were excited to watch the connection between him and Patrick Mahomes.

While the quarterback was facing the pass rush, he got it off to a receiver who found some space and was able to make a catch in the given pocket of the coverage. And while there is plenty of time between now and the first official game, the inability for Brown to continue had some momentarily worried. As reports from Adam Schefter now indicate, he "suffered a dislocation of his sternoclavicular shoulder joint."

This led to him taking a visit to the hospital, where it was reported on social media, also from Adam Schefter, that he had been released early the next morning. Immediately, some speculated and drew comparisons to a similar incident that happened to former Arrowhead receiver Tyreek Hill. However, at this time, it looks like the severity of this injury will not result in as much time away from the gridiron as was the case for the current Miami Dolphin. Regardless of the extent to which this injury will impact him, it's still meaningful.

As spectators saw on just one play, there's a lot of potential here, but time and solidifying chemistry are what's needed. Just Not being able to finish out the drive in the first preseason game is a missed opportunity. Needless to say, assuming that there isn't a setback in the recovery and rehab process, the two should be fine and be able to pick up where they left off. But in a sport that is all about timing and having the same reads the game and additional practice time could later be missed opportunities that would have been beneficial.

Assuming Brown is able to get to full health soon, the two will likely have zero issues even if their first action back together is in a regular season game. But if you asked, both would obviously prefer being able to work out the kinks and make some adjustments during a couple series of the preseason. Two very capable players will easily be able to figure it out on the fly as needed. However, gaining an advantage and putting in work early is always ideal. Particularly when chasing the threepeat, any minor setback can end up having unintended implications down the road. It's hard enough to just win one Super Bowl.

Odd offseason for the Kansas City Chiefs

Fans can nitpick and poke holes at championship rings all they want, but any path to the ultimate victory has moments where luck or the dominoes falling just right occurred. And again, while the severity of this injury seems to be minimal in the grand scheme of things, it's certainly not what Andy Reid or the players wanted. And it takes away the possibility to work on not only staples of the offense but possible wrinkles that could be used later on and ensuing postseason run.

However, this offers an opportunity, as spectators saw Xavier Worthy, their rookie out of Texas, have additional snaps in practice and to develop his chemistry with Mahomes. The Kansas City Chiefs have the best quarterback playing at the moment and one of the best of all time, so this is a minor setback. But along with all of the off-season noise, this becomes one of many smaller things that could potentially add up.
