A 47-year-old man is currently in custody following a domestic dispute and a chase by law enforcement on Saturday, resulting in numerous felony charges including false imprisonment and kidnapping.

According to a Coffee County Sheriff's Office report, on July 6th, a deputy responded to a residence on Bethel Road regarding a possible domestic dispute. The dispatcher informed the deputy that the complainant reported a forcible entry into a residence and an abduction by a male suspect identified as Mitchel Jump of Douglas.

Another deputy arrived on the scene and initiated a vehicle pursuit with Jump, who was driving a 2005 Chevrolet Avalanche. One of the deputies observed Jump running a stop sign at Bethel Road and Estlee Mercer Road. He continued to commit multiple offenses during the chase including reckless driving, failure to maintain lane, and driving on the wrong side of the roadway.

During the pursuit, Jump was on True Love Road attempting to turn onto Ben Carver Road when the vehicle slid into a ditch.

The report states, "due to the severity of the charges, the deputy terminated the pursuit by using his patrol car to push the suspect vehicle, making contact with the rear passenger quarter panel of the suspect's vehicle."

Once the vehicle came to a stop, the deputy witnessed Jump exiting the driver's seat and fleeing on foot through a patch of woods. The deputy chased after Jump and apprehended him in the woods adjacent to Ben Carver Road. Jump was then taken into custody.

At that point, the deputy made contact with the victim, who was seated in the passenger seat of the vehicle. The victim informed the deputy that she and Jump were at the residence when Jump began to assault her. She managed to escape to another residence to call 911.

While on the phone with Emergency Services, Jump arrived at that residence, began banging on the door, attempted to gain entry, and forcibly removed the victim from the residence into his vehicle, driving at a high rate of speed.

The deputy also spoke with another witness who reported seeing Jump running around the home with a pry bar, hitting the side of the house, windows, and doors. The witness stated that Jump entered the residence through the back door, grabbed the woman by her arm, and threw her into his truck.

Jump was transported to the Coffee County Jail and booked on charges including Battery - Family Violence, Burglary in the 1st Degree, Kidnapping, False Imprisonment, Obstructing or Hindering Law Enforcement, and Fleeing or Attempting to Elude a Police Officer. He also faces numerous traffic citations including failure to stop at a stop sign, reckless driving, failure to maintain lane, driving on the wrong side of the roadway, and obstructing or hindering law enforcement officers.

As of Wednesday afternoon, Jump remains in custody.

All information was obtained through a Coffee County Sheriff's Office incident report.
