According to a Coffee County Sheriff’s Office incident report, a 57-year-old Douglas man was arrested last week after he shot his wife.

The report states that on July 10, a deputy was dispatched to a residence on Green Oak Street in response to a gunshot wound. While en route to the location, deputies were informed by Coffee E911 that the victim was still on an open line.

Coffee E911 informed deputies that the victim, a 55-year-old woman, stated her husband had shot her in the chest, “but she was talking very low and becoming unresponsive.”

When the reporting deputy arrived at the location, another deputy was already on the scene. He went inside the residence to check on the victim and found her lying on her side in the hallway.

The deputy stated that he conducted a safety sweep of the residence and then returned to the victim. Law enforcement rendered medical aid until EMS arrived on the scene.

According to the report, EMS located a single entrance wound near the top of the victim’s armpit. She was transported to Coffee Regional Medical Center and then transferred to a hospital in Jacksonville for additional treatment.

The suspect, George Griffin, was detained, transported to the Coffee County Jail, and placed on a 48-hour hold pending the results of the investigation by CID.

No further information regarding the shooting was provided in the report.

However, Griffin was charged with one count of aggravated assault and later released on a $15,000 property bond.
