Georgia Men Sentenced in Multi-State Firearms Trafficking Operation Tied to Violent Crime

Two men, Alvin Demar and Joshua Carter, have been sentenced to federal prison for trafficking firearms, with some later recovered at crime scenes across multiple states and Canada. A third man, Jamal Plunkett, was sentenced for possessing one of these trafficked weapons.

U.S. Attorney Ryan K. Buchanan emphasized the serious threat posed by gun traffickers and reiterated the commitment to dismantling such operations. ATF Assistant Special Agent Alicia Jones added that the convictions reinforce the zero-tolerance stance on illegal firearms trafficking.

Between July 2021 and January 2022, Demar, a convicted felon, orchestrated straw purchases of dozens of firearms in Atlanta, which were then trafficked and used in various crimes. Demar and Carter's firearms were linked to incidents in cities including Atlanta, Baltimore, and Toronto. Demar also illegally possessed multiple firearms, including a destructive device.

Demar was sentenced to 15 years in prison, while Carter received three years. Plunkett is serving over four years for possession of a stolen firearm.
