A man out on probation for drug charges less than a year ago and a woman from Douglas were recently arrested following a search at a local apartment.

On August 7, 2024, at around 1:00 PM, Detectives from the Coffee County Sheriff's Office Drug Unit were conducting a proactive narcotics patrol in Douglas. During their patrol, a detective spotted 30-year-old Christopher Lamar Hawkins, who had outstanding warrants for fleeing police and methamphetamine possession, driving a white 2021 Kia Sorento. Hawkins was stopped in front of apartment 203/204 on N Wheeler Ave, where two detectives approached him. Breanna Henderson, 33, then came out of apartment 203 to "investigate what was going on with Hawkins" and appeared to whisper with Hawkins during his arrest. The report states that Henderson, who temporarily lived with Hawkins, began whispering with him "presumably about nefarious activities due to Hawkins's previous history with drug distribution and evading law enforcement."

Hawkins was taken to the Coffee County Law Enforcement Center, while a detective began surveillance on Henderson at the apartment. She was observed leaving the apartment and getting into her 2020 Hyundai Sorata. The report states that a traffic stop was conducted on the vehicle, with a K9 deputy deploying his narcotics K9 on the car. The K9 alerted to the presence of illegal substances, and a probable cause search of the vehicle was conducted, with the detective locating a "personal amount" of methamphetamine on the driver's seat where Henderson was sitting.

Henderson was placed under arrest for possession of suspected methamphetamine and transported to the LEC for booking.

According to the report, when Henderson arrived at the jail, a jailer witnessed Hawkins whisper to Henderson that an "unknown object or substance was either in the living room or under the bed in that apartment." The detective stated the comment was believed to be about a certain controlled substance that Hawkins was "known to possess and distribute and the reason for him driving to that apartment earlier in the day."

A search warrant for Henderson's apartment (203) was applied for and, once granted, a search of the apartment began around 3:50 PM that day. The search, per detectives, uncovered a quantity of cocaine in a closet (where both male and female clothing were located), along with Hawkins's prescription medication and two firearms: a Draco 7.62mm rifle and a Rossi RS22 22LR. The Draco rifle had been previously seen with Hawkins "multiple times on social media and in general passing."

The cocaine tested positive and weighed about 22 grams, the report states.

In this case, Hawkins was charged with possession of cocaine with the intent to distribute and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime. He was also booked on warrants including possession of methamphetamine, fleeing or evading a police officer, willful obstruction of law enforcement officers (misdemeanor), and reckless driving.

At the time of his arrest, Hawkins was on bond following an arrest in October 2023 on charges of possession of a schedule I or II controlled substance with intent to distribute: Hydrocodone, possession of a firearm or knife during the commission of or attempt to commit certain felonies, possession of a schedule II controlled substance (narcotic): cocaine, and purchase/possession/manufacture/distribution/or sale of marijuana.

Henderson was booked on charges including possession of cocaine with the intent to distribute and three counts of possession of a firearm during the commission of or attempt to commit certain felonies.

The Coffee County Jail roster shows that Henderson has been released, while Hawkins remains in custody.
