This month, a Coffee County Grand Jury indicted nearly 35 individuals on felony charges. The charges include drug offenses, with one person facing trafficking charges, and four individuals charged with aggravated assault. Danny West Jr., who escaped custody and evaded law enforcement for over a year, was also indicted following his apprehension earlier this year.

West has a history of fleeing, with this indictment related to a second escape offense. In 2022, after a sentencing hearing in Ben Hill County, West fled from law enforcement and evaded capture for several months. He was eventually apprehended by detectives in Coffee County on December 17, 2022, in front of Hibbett Sports in Douglas.

After West was booked into the Coffee County Jail, he was transported back to Ben Hill County. Two months later, while still in custody, West requested permission to attend his grandmother's funeral in Douglas. The request was granted, but while attending the service on February 25, 2023, West escaped officers and jumped into a Ford pickup truck, which fled the area.

A manhunt was launched but was unsuccessful for over a year until West was apprehended on May 8, 2024. Deputies received information that led them to a home on Shirley Avenue. When they arrived, an individual, later identified as West, ran to the back of the house and then fled on foot. He was eventually apprehended and taken into custody.

West was indicted on one count of escape and is currently incarcerated in the Coffee County Jail.

Billy Toombs Jr., a 32-year-old man, was also indicted following an arrest last month. According to a report, Toombs Jr. fled from a traffic stop and abandoned a vehicle with a child in the passenger seat before fleeing on foot. After his apprehension, detectives reportedly found 230 grams of methamphetamine, which Toombs had thrown while fleeing.

Toombs Jr. faces one count of trafficking in methamphetamine and is currently incarcerated in the Coffee County Jail.

Four individuals were indicted on aggravated assault charges, with one also facing an additional felony. The individuals include Johnny White, Victor Vasquez III (who also faces an aggravated battery charge), Seine Benefield Jr., and Antonio Guerrero-Rivas.

Following an arrest in May, 27-year-old Darrion Jeffery has been indicted on charges including possession of cocaine with intent to distribute and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. According to a report, detectives witnessed Jeffery pull out of a local apartment complex on a mini-bike and swerve into the wrong lane, leading to a traffic stop. Jeffery admitted to possessing a firearm and a quantity of marijuana. During a search, detectives discovered the firearm and four baggies containing a total of 17 grams of cocaine. He remains in custody.
