A 36-year-old man died Saturday after the motorcycle he was operating crashed into a pickup truck near Miller and McKellips roads, Scottsdale police said Sunday.

Elliot Carter was on the motorcycle heading westbound on McKellips Road about 9:20 a.m. Aug. 31 and failed to stop for a red traffic light as he approached Miller Road, according to preliminary information from the Scottsdale Police Department.

“He collided with a pickup truck lawfully in the intersection on a green light,” a department release stated.

Carter was not wearing a helmet, and lifesaving measures were administered at the scene by bystanders and first responders, police said. He was taken to a trauma hospital but did not survive his injuries.

The two people in the pickup were not seriously injured.

An investigation is continuing, but speed and impairment are not considered factors at this point, police said.

Roads and the intersection were closed for three hours while detectives collected evidence, according to the release.
