A Christmas Tradition Encore

Chronic Wasting Disease detected in Cherokee County deer breeding facility
AUSTIN — Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) and Texas Animal Health Commission (TAHC) received confirmation of a case of chronic wasting disease (CWD) in Cherokee County, marking the first detection in a deer breeding facility in the county. A four-year-old buck tested positive using postmortem testing conducted to meet annual CWD surveillance requirements for the facility. Texas A&M Veterinary Medical Diagnostic Laboratory initially analyzed the samples, and the National Veterinary Services Laboratory in Iowa confirmed the CWD detection. CWD has an incubation period that can span years, so the first indication of the disease in a herd is often found through surveillance...

Tigers blank Bulldogs, will meet Hooks in area round
After falling just short in a hard-fought battle for the district title last Friday, the Daingerfield Tigers had a short week to prepare for their playoff opener against New Waverly in a bi-district game played in rainy conditions at Henderson’s Lion Stadium. There was no hangover; no heads hung for the missed opportunity. Playoff season is a different animal and the Tigers knew they had a chance at another gold trophy. The Tigers left little doubt in their bi-district round game Thursday as Daingerfield rolled past New Waverly, 48-0. Daingerfield jumped out to a 28-0 lead at halftime, and quarterback Chase Johnson played...

Brahmas finish season with win, miss playoffs due to tiebreaker
Unfortunately, the Pewitt Brahmas held only a portion of their playoff fates in their own hands and needed other results to fall their way even with a win. The Brahmas took care of business in a 42-8 win at home against Chisum, but couldn’t get the district tiebreaker to fall their way for a playoff berth. The Brahmas end their season at 3-7, tied for fourth place with Redwater and New Boston, but the Dragons and Lions claimed the district’s final spots thanks to tiebreakers. Pewitt, celebrating Senior Night, jumped out to a 14-0 lead in the first quarter and added another...
Looking for a Shepherd
About eight years ago, a man asked the pastor if he could read a passage from the Psalms to the group under the bridge. He also asked the pastor to help him since his reading skills were poor. This pastor had counseled this man numerous times regarding his addiction and other sins. And the man appeared mentally challenged and had admitted to using meth. What I love is that the man came to church that day. His steps brought him to that moment, as did ours. And we watched the man move to the microphone beside the pastor. Worship songs ended. Birds chirped...
