Perry man arrested on local charge, Florida warrant
A Perry man was arrested on a Dallas County warrant Monday in connection with an April incident in which he allegedly threatened to “shoot up” a Perry residence. Lamar Steven Bryant, 49, of 2514 Perry Park Ave., Perry, was arrested on a Dallas County warrant for first-degree harassment, fugitive from justice and failure to appear on an original charge of attempted murder.
Strategic Plan for Next Phase of Recovery Following Tyson Foods Closure
The City of Perry is helping in any way possible to assist former Tyson Foods employees that were recently laid off following the closure of the plant in Dallas County. When Tyson made the announcement to close the Perry Pork Plant on March 11th, the City of Perry began this initiative called “PerryNext” to be a collective effort between the city, county, and state officials to work on the next steps in order to proceed. Perry City Administrator Sven Peterson shares that the city recently approved a scope of services with the company Bolton & Menk to help PerryNext on recovery strategies.

In 1850, when the state used precincts rather than townships, the boundary lines for Sugar Grove Township were unsettled; it was divided into Buena Vista and Des Moines Precincts. The first time the township with the name “Sugar Grove Township” was organized was in September 1851, when it was included in Beaver Township. The boundary lines changed many times until 1870 when it was settled in its present form.

A representative from the Greater Dallas County Development Alliance outlines lessons learned while preparing for Tyson Foods shutdown this past Friday. Executive Director Rachel Wacker tells Raccoon Valley Radio that the organization serves all of Dallas County, but in Perry, the development alliance helps with the economic development portion to help with dealing with closures. She emphasizes that the goal is to focus on the aspects that are right in front of them.
Criminal Court Building Updates Will Be Apart of Tomorrow’s Dallas County Supervisors Meeting
The Dallas County Board of Supervisors is set to meet tomorrow to discuss the latest with the new criminal court building in Adel. The board will be given a schematic design presentation as well as a proposed schedule for bond referendum pricing from Turner Construction. Other items on the agenda seeking approval include a construction update, a pay application, and contingency update for the new administration building in Adel, a filming location agreement, and a pay application for the courthouse restoration project.
