D Magazine is celebrating its 50th anniversary — and republishing some of the outlet's greatest stories.

Why it matters: At a time when media companies are struggling and disappearing, a city magazine surviving — and thriving — for that long is quite an accomplishment.

What's happening: The magazine designed 12 new logos , which feature local icons like Roger Staubach, Dirk Nowitzki, Larry Hagman and the red Pegasus .

Flashback: Wick Allison and Jim Atkinson published the first issue in 1974, a year after the launch of Texas Monthly in Austin. Christine and Gillea Allison are now at the top of the masthead, carrying on Allison's legacy, after his death in 2020.

Worthy of your time: Sort through some of those 50 stories .
