Cowboys defender named Dallas' potential breakout player for 2024

With the Dallas Cowboys not being too active in the free-agent market this offseason, it's clear the team is hoping that some of its returning players can step up and make a big impact in 2024.

One of those players is 2023 third-round pick, linebacker DeMarvion Overshown, who is coming back from a torn ACL suffered before the start of his first season, which was even more unfortunate given how far along he seemed to be.

In a recent article naming one potential breakout player for every team in the NFL, Pro Football Network's Tony Catalina pegged Overshown for Dallas. Here are his thoughts on the subject:

A lot will be asked of Overshown this season following a rookie year that ended before it even started. The young LB tore his ACL in a preseason game last year, and despite that, the feeling is Overshown will play a huge part in the middle of the Cowboys’ defense this year. There’s plenty of excitement about his potential, and if he is as good as some think, he could be a perfect breakout candidate.

While fans should rightly be high on Overshown, it's tough to expect a ton out of him in 2024. After all, he's coming back from a torn ACL and we all know that players aren't always themselves in the first year removed from the serious injury.

Wide receiver Jalen Tolbert would be a better choice. After an abysmal start to his career that was partly because of his limited opportunities, Tolbert began showing flashes last season.

Now that Michael Gallup is gone, Tolbert should get more csnaps. Adding to that, the Cowboys have to replace 124 targets, 89 receptions and 729 yards with the departures of both Gallup and Tony Pollard.

If Tolbert can build on what he did last season and soak up a significant amount of that production, he'll easily have a breakout campaign in Year 3.
