2 Perfect Trade Targets The Dallas Cowboys Should Pursue

The Dallas Cowboys haven’t exactly been a very active team this offseason, with linebacker Eric Kendricks representing their only impactful addition in free agency.

The Cowboys also had a relatively disappointing draft, as they weren’t able to land a running back, and their selection of offensive tackle Tyler Guyton in the first round was widely viewed as a risky move.

Still, Dallas is absolutely a contender heading into 2024. The team is coming off of three straight 12-win campaigns, and all of the key pieces on the roster are still intact.

That being said, the Cowboys could absolutely stand to improve their squad in order to bolster their chances at a Super Bowl run.

Here are a couple of trade targets Dallas should pursue with training camp on the horizon.

Tyler Lockett, WR, Seattle Seahawks

The Cowboys are lacking depth at wide receiver behind CeeDee Lamb. They acquired Brandin Cooks last offseason, but he was actually disappointing in 2023. They also cut Michael Gallup, leaving Jalen Tolbert and Jalen Brooks to fight for the No. 3 role.

Enter Tyler Lockett, who may be on the outs in Seattle.

The Seahawks did restructure Lockett’s contract earlier this offseason, but that does not necessarily mean he is a shoo-in to remain with the club.

While Lockett may be likely to at least begin the 2024 campaign on Seattle’s roster, the Seahawks may be tempted to move him for the right offer.

Seattle already has D.K. Metcalf as its No. 1 wide out, and second-year pass-catcher Jaxon Smith-Njigba is emerging as the probable No. 2. That would make Lockett a rather expensive third option for the Seahawks, which could lead to a trade.

A trio of Lamb, Lockett and Cooks would suddenly be a rather impressive group for the Cowboys to have at Dak Prescott’s disposal.

Another WR to monitor: Elijah Moore, Cleveland Browns.

Khalil Herbert, RB, Chicago Bears

The Bears had high hopes for Khalil Herbert last season, which was why they allowed fellow running back David Montgomery to walk in free agency.

Herbert ended up putting forth underwhelming results in 2023, rushing for just 611 yards and a couple of touchdowns while catching 20 passes for 134 yards and a score.

Chicago then signed D’Andre Swift this past March, moving Herbert back down the depth chart to compete for touches with Roschon Johnson.

Herbert is not a featured back. That much we know. But, he is certainly capable enough to be a part of a running back rotation, which is what Dallas will almost surely be employing this year.

The Cowboys signed Ezekiel Elliott, who joins a backfield that includes Deuce Vaughn and Rico Dowdle. Not exactly an inspiring stable of halfbacks.

Herbert could step in and provide Dallas with a solid option to complement Elliott.

He isn’t a very sexy option, but at this stage of the offseason, that is all the Cowboys are likely going to find.

Another RB option: Jerome Ford, Cleveland Browns.
