While the morning hours in the NBA world belonged to Paul George and his new partnership with Joel Embiid and the Philadelphia 76ers, it was Klay Thompson who took over the afternoon hours.

According to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski, the former Golden State Warrior was signing a three-year deal with the Dallas Mavericks for $50 million, with a player option as well. Thomspon will now join Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving on a roster that lost in the NBA Finals to the Boston Celtics.

While it's not a major surprise that Thompson ended up in Dallas with the Mavericks, the terms of his deal come as a bit of a surprise. Three years for $50 million is slightly less than many people were projecting Thompson to get.

Wojnarowski cleared up the reasoning on Monday afternoon, saying that Thompson decided to take less money from the Mavericks in order to be part of the championship-level team.

Woj says that Thompson could have signed with another team for more money, but he ultimately decided to go with the Mavericks and play with Luka and Kyrie.

That decision could also allow the team more flexibility around Thompson and further pursue a championship.
