"The dude has been a professional basketball player since he's 13" - Mark Jackson breaks down what makes Luka Doncic so good in the Playoffs

Luka Doncic has cemented himself as one of the top players in the NBA right now. Still, he manages to take his game to another level in the postseason. Case in point, he just led the Dallas Mavericks to the 2024 NBA Finals, although they lost in five games.

However, it wasn't because of Doncic, who played at an incredibly high level all postseason long despite battling a myriad of injuries. If you ask Mark Jackson , there may be one big reason why Luka Magic is so good in the playoffs.

Jackson shares what makes Doncic so good

Against heightened competition, Doncic remained as strong as ever for the Mavs in the 2024 NBA Playoffs (28.9 PPG, 9.5 RPG, 8.1 APG, 44.6 FG%). It didn't yield Dallas a title, but no one else can produce like the Slovenian guard does when the lights are brightest.

This is what Luka has been doing all throughout his life, even before he made it to the NBA. Jackson noted that Doncic has been playing professional basketball since he was 13 years old, which has helped him experience pretty much every situation you can imagine.

"He already shows he is an all-time great basketball player; that's not breaking news," Jackson said on The Mark Jackson Show. "You can't beat up Luka, you can't be too physical with him, he embraces it. The dude has been a professional basketball player since he's 13 years old. He's seen it all; you're not affecting him, and he doesn't get caught up in it."

Luka's experience gives him an advantage

Doncic signed a five-year contract to play for Real Madrid in Spain when he was just 13 years old, and he's been dominating at a professional level ever since then. In America, you typically aren't even in high school when you are at that age.

This is what Luka has been doing for over a decade now. While other NBA players certainly played basketball when they were 13, they weren't doing so against the same competition as Doncic was. And now, that's paying off in the NBA.

The game's biggest stage is the postseason, and Doncic has never been phased by that. Even with limited supporting casts around him from time to time, Luka feels inevitable, as he has a plethora of crazy performances and shots in his playoff highlight reel already.

The scary thing is that he is still only 25 years old, so there's a chance he hasn't reached his full potential yet. He may not have won a championship this season, but if Doncic can keep dominating in the playoffs, he will surely win his first title sooner rather than later.
