Well, that was quite shocking. Shams Charania of The Athletic reported that Dallas Mavericks star point guard Kyrie Irving has undergone surgery for his broken left hand.

According to Charania, Irving suffered this injury last month. The announcement blindsided a lot of fans who did not see this injury coming.

A lot of the reactions from the fans noted how it was surprising that the Mavericks were able to hide this information for this long. With how fast news travels in the NBA sphere, it's a real shocker that the initial injury was hidden for a month.

"This is crazy how nobody knew about this until now," a fan said.

"Damn nobody knew till now," another shocked social media user shared.

The reactions from Mavericks fans have been pretty varied. Some are starting to make doom-posts about how their season is over, while others are looking at the silver lining and thankful it happened in the offseason.

"Well at least it happened in July lol get well soon Brodie," a Mavs supporter wrote.

"Seasons over 💔" a pessimistic fan added.

Irving helped lead the Mavericks to their first Finals appearance since 2011. He played a pivotal role in the earlier rounds, with clutch performances to help complement Luka Doncic. Unfortunately, they fell short in the NBA Finals.

The Mavericks are hoping for Irving's speedy recovery. Hand injuries typically take a few weeks or a month to heal, so he should be ready to go before training camp starts.
