Dallas Cowboys wide receiver CeeDee Lamb is still holding out of training camp as a result of a contract dispute, which has led to speculation that the Cowboys could potentially trade Lamb.
Dallas has reportedly made another offer to the superstar pass-catcher, but if Lamb declines, problems could certainly ensue.
Well, FanDuel has created a rather wild trade scenario in which the Cowboys trade Lamb to the Pittsburgh Steelers in exchange for quarterback Justin Fields and a couple of draft picks.
In this hypothetical deal, the Steelers would land a much-needed wide receiver—an elite one, at that—to pair alongside of George Pickens, and the Cowboys would receive some substantial draft capital as well as a potential replacement for Dak Prescott in Fields.
Of course, barring anything extreme, Dallas would surely say no to this.
The Cowboys are trying to win a Super Bowl now , and trading Lamb would obviously be counterproductive to that goal. Plus, Fields would be a massive downgrade from Prescott. At that point, Dallas would probably just be better off paying Prescott $60 million annually.
What will happen with the Cowboys and CeeDee Lamb?
Chances are, the Cowboys will strike an agreement with Lamb. They are making him their top priority, even at the expense of Prescott. They aren’t going to turn around and trade him unless they reach the point of no return, which doesn’t seem very likely.
Lamb is one of the top offensive talents in all of football. Last season, he led the NFL with 135 receptions to go along with 1,749 yards and 12 touchdowns en route to his third straight Pro Bowl appearance and a First-Team All-Pro selection.
Behind Lamb, Dallas doesn’t really have a whole lot at the wide receiver position. It’s basically just Brandin Cooks (who was pretty disappointing for the club in 2023) and unproven commodities like Jalen Tolbert and Jalen Brooks.
It just seems hard to imagine the Cowboys coming to the conclusion to trade Lamb, especially considering how they have put contract extensions for Prescott and Micah Parsons on hold just to ensure that they take care of Lamb first.
Dallas has rattled off three straight 12-win campaigns, but only has one playoff win to show for it. It remains one of the most talented teams in football and absolutely has the roster to make a postseason run in 2024, but that will quickly change if the Cowboys decide to part ways with CeeDee Lamb.
