Cowboys Get Devastating Injury News About One Of Their Top Defensive Players

    By Michael Gallagher,

The Dallas Cowboys were among one of the top defensive teams in the NFL last season, but they’ll have to find defensive success without one of their top players in 2024.

Per NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero , Cowboys defensive end Sam Williams is believed to have torn his ACL during Sunday’s practice. The 25-year-old is scheduled to have an MRI to confirm, and he could miss the entire season if true.

Williams was one of the key cogs in Dallas’ defensive line last season, accounting for 26 tackles, 24 pressures, 16 hurries, five tackles for loss, 4.5 sacks, three QB hits and a forced fumble, and his 193 pass-rushing snaps were fifth-most on the team.

He’s one of three returning defensive lineman with 20 or more pressures and 15 or more hurries last season. During his two-year NFL career, Williams has totaled 46 pressures, 26 hurries and 8.5 sacks as one of the Cowboys’ main pass-rushers off the edge.

Williams’ potential season-ending injury opens the door, however, for 2024 second-round pick Marshawn Kneeland to compete for a starting spot in camp. Kneeland led Western Michigan in virtually all pass-rushing stats last season including pressures (37), hurries (28) and sacks (4.5) and forced fumbles (2).
