Two schools emerge for 4-star C Jaden Toombs

Jaden Toombs is fresh off winning a gold medal with the U17 USA Basketball team. In a down class for bigs, Toombs is one of the top centers (No. 4) in 2025.

On Monday evening, the 6-foot-9 rising senior announced his final five schools — Alabama , LSU , Miami , SMU , and Texas Tech .

For the majority of his recruitment, Texas Tech had been viewed as the heavy favorite to land him as he’s originally from Amarillo, just two hours down the road.

However, there’s a new program picking up significant traction with him — SMU .

Toombs attends Dynamic Prep in Dallas, TX. Since Andy Enfield and his staff have arrived in town, they’ve made the four-star big man a major priority.

It should also be noted that Toombs is close friends and teammates (both high school and AAU) with four-star SF Jermaine O’Neal Jr , the son of 6x NBA All-Star Jermaine O’Neal Sr.

Jermaine O’Neal Sr. is the head coach of the duo.

I recently made an RPM prediction in favor of SMU for Jermaine O’Neal Jr.

The reason this is important is because sources have suggested that the two are interested in potentially going to college together. This isn’t to say that they’re a package deal, but it is an avenue the friends are exploring.

According to sources, Texas Tech remains in the hunt with Toombs and the Red Raiders likely won’t go down without a fight.

Toombs, the No. 43 overall player in the country, has upcoming official visits scheduled with Alabama and Miami , to go along with SMU (who will get the last visit).

We will continue to monitor how his trips to Tuscaloosa and Coral Gables go, but as of now, this is trending towards a two-horse race between Texas Tech and SMU.

“Jaden Toombs is a strong presence on the block. He knows who he is as a player, and he goes out and does that. There is some touch there; he can step out and knock down a catch-and-shoot three. He sets good screens to get his guys open. He is a good area rebounder, securing possessions in traffic. He is a solid athlete.
