JCBOE honors Johnson Central High School Solar Car Team
During its July 22 regular meeting the Johnson County Schools Board of Education honored the Johnson Central High School EagleX solar car team. The team returned from Texas Motor Speedway in Fort Worth, Texas, last week after what coaches deemed an extremely successful event, despite technical issues with the car’s chassis. In the Classic division of the competition, the team placed fourth overall, with 216 laps around the track and 324 miles completed without any mechanical issues, according to team members. Two members of the team were given a special award created just for them and were also offered possible future internships with the National Aeronautics Space Administration. The team also received the Oncor Award, which is awarded to the team that best represents solar car education, according to team coach Nathan Reel.
