City of Danville Announces Road Closures around Northeast Elementary & Kenneth D Bailey Academy
The City of Danville would like to announce a Contractor request for a roadway closure for water main service connection for the Northeast Elementary Magnet School construction project. Beginning at 7:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 3, 2024, there will be a complete roadway closure on. Lorraine Street south of English Street.

Georgetown Fair Time: Sat July 6th through Sat July 13th
This coming Saturday, July 6th; the Georgetown Fair opens; scheduled to go a full week; through Saturday, July 13th. The Georgetown Fair’s Don Hackler recently joined Laura Williams on 1490 WDAN’s Community Connection. This will be the second year of an earlier Georgetown Fair, which used to be during the first week of August. Hackler says some adjustments were needed with the change, and they continue.
Independence Day Parade, Commode Races Part of Oakwood Festivities
OAKWOOD — Just like New York’s Coney Island is known for its hot dog eating contest on the Fourth of July, Oakwood has its Commode Races returning. The Commode Races are just like they sound. There’s a team of four, ages 13 and up, with one rider sitting on a commode and three pushers pushing the commode on a cart. They race about a block’s length to determine a winner. The winning team receives a golden toilet trophy award.
