    Danville hosting big Fourth of July celebration

    The Danville-Boyle County Parks and Recreation Department and the Great American Brass Band Festival are partnering to host a Fourth of July celebration this Thursday at Millenium Park.

    The party will go all day from 10 a.m. to dusk, and is free to the public.

    The festivities at Millenium Park in Danville will begin at 10 a.m. with an adult 3 vs. 3 basketball tournament. Tournaments will be limited to 16 teams, and players must be 16 or older.

    The kids home run derby will begin at 3 p.m. There will be three divisions: 10 years of age and under will have a 150 ft. homerun distance; 12 years of age and under will have a 200 ft. homerun distance; 13 years of age and older will have a 300 ft. homerun distance.

    Prizes will be given to winners of each division. People can r egister on the Parks and Rec website under special events.

    The main event with bounce houses, face painting, food trucks and more will begin at 5 p.m.
    The Great American Brass Band Festival’s Downtown Downbeat event will begin at 6:30 p.m. There will be live music by the Lexington Concert Band and JD Shelburne with country music.

    Fireworks will begin at dusk.
