Bench trial date on permanent injunction set for Lowry/Lockport/Park lawsuit
CENTREVILLE — Miscommunication between the St. Joseph County courthouse and lawyers in a major local lawsuit led to a new date being set for a key part in the case. On Tuesday, St. Joseph County 45th Circuit Court Judge Paul Stutesman set a Tuesday, Sept. 3 date for a bench trial to determine if a permanent injunction can be issued in a lawsuit filed by Tom Lowry against Lockport and Park townships. Proceedings will begin at 8 a.m. on that day.

The city of Chicago this week moved to dismiss, refile and effectively expand a lawsuit previously brought against gun manufacturer Glock. Originally filed last March, the since-updated lawsuit raises many of the same allegations against Glock — centered around the recent surge of “auto sears” or “switches” that can quickly modify a Glock handgun into an automatic weapon — though the manufacturer’s Austria-based parent company and two suburban Chicago gun shops were added as defendants in the case.

The Illinois Department of Transportation announced that as part of ongoing efforts to upgrade the movable bridges in downtown Joliet, a full closure is scheduled to take place on Ruby Street (Illinois 53) over the Des Plaines River, in Joliet, beginning, weather permitting, Tuesday, July 30 to Friday, Aug. 2. The closure is necessary to install aerial towers on the bridge.
