The Davenport City Council has a packed schedule for tonight’s meeting, according to the agenda on the Council’s website.

Riverview Heights LLC has asked the city to rezone about 1.47 acres of land on the north side of the 700 block of E. Sixth Street from a single family/two family zone to a multi-family zone. The Planning and Zoning Commission has recommended denying the request because the protest rate was over 20%.

Ward 6 Alderman Ben Jobgen requested that the Freight House Farmers Market be allowed to move to the Scott County Administrative Center, 600 W. Fourth Street, due to floodwaters. The market would be at the temporary location on July 6, 7, 13 and 14 and the measure is expected to be approved.

The city is also considering a project that would replace three sections of the roof at the Davenport Freight House, 421 W. River Drive. Work includes replacing insulation and cover board, new roof membrane over two of the three areas, walk pads, gutters and downspouts, access ladder and other accessories, MEP (mechanical, electric, and plumbing) work at piping and rooftop units as necessary to accommodate the roof replacement and replacing one translucent skylight unit. A hearing will be held to discuss the project and get public input.

The Davenport School District is asking the city for an ordinance to vacate W. Fifth Street between Cedar Street and Howell Street to allow for the redevelopment of Smart Middle School. The area to be vacated is about 38,013 square feet or 0.87 acres. The Planning and Zoning Commission unanimously voted to forward the proposal to the City Council for approval.

The city is expected to approve a motion to approve funding to design a new play feature for Main Street Landing, featuring a landscaped berm that will protect the area until the Mississippi River reaches 21 feet. The funding would also pay for a new series of structures that includes slides and climbing features that resemble Lock & Dam 15, the largest roller dam in the world. Slides depict the dam in various states of usage and the tallest is about eight feet. Funding for the project comes from a Destination Iowa grant and the city’s previously approved match.
