Eleven students are getting help paying for continuing education from Ascentra Credit Union.

The Ascentra Scholarship Program has awarded scholarships to 11 area student members of the credit union. These 11 students will receive $1,000 each to help them achieve their academic and professional goals. Five $1,000 scholarships were awarded to traditional high school students who are planning to enter college and five $1,000 scholarships were awarded to non-traditional students ages 19 or over who are planning to attend college or earn an advanced degree. One $1,000 scholarship was awarded to a student entering a trade program.

The Ascentra Scholarship Program allows students to apply for the scholarship every year they are enrolled in an accredited institution or program. The competition is announced every October and the deadline to apply is the end of March the following year.

This year’s traditional scholarship winners are:

    • Luke Gustafson, Rock Island
    • Luke Christensen, Bettendorf
    • Isabelle Bolton, Camanche
    • Antonio Vazquez, Moline
    • Tyler Nels, Bettendorf

The non-traditional or continuing education winners are:

    • Barbara Manley, Fulton
    • Emma Thalacker, Davenport
    • Addison Knox, Milan
    • Dakota Keller, Fairbanks, Alaska
    • Thomas Cunningham, Long Grove

The vocational school or trades program winner is Evan Boldt from Davenport.

“With the rising costs in post-secondary education, it’s more important than ever for employers to get involved in helping tomorrow’s workforce have a more financially stable start to their careers,” said Linda Andry, president and CEO of Ascentra Credit Union. “Ascentra is honored to be a part of these students’ futures and to help them reach their post-secondary goals.”

The Ascentra Scholarship Program started in 1997 and has awarded $150,000 in scholarships since then. To learn more about this year’s scholarship winners, program rules and other scholarship opportunities, click here .
