Assumption ends Mustangs’ season in tourney opener
The Mustang baseball team saw its season come to an end following a 15-0 loss to Davenport Assumption in the opening round of the Class 3A tournament. Davis County had just two hits in the game and couldn’t get the offense going against the pitching of Landen Derrer. Derrer struck out four and didn’t walk a batter in the game.
Houston wins ‘Jammin’ for Jam’ contest
Katy Houston was named the overall winner of the “Jammin’ for Jam” contest during the July 13 Farmers’ Market in the Davis County Courtyard. Houston’s Strawberry Peaches and Cream Jam won the competition in which more than 60 ballots were cast.
DC girls finish second at state
The Davis County Little League 12U Softball team qualified for the Iowa State Little League Tournament last week in Oskaloosa. The girls finished second in the tournament. They were undefeated in the round-robin division of the tournament. They won games against Johnston and Grandview, both from the Des Moines Area. They beat LeMars and Mahaska National to advance to the championship game of the tournament last Saturday. Johnston defeated Davis County 11-1 in that championship game. Team members are Anderson Schooley, Addi McCall, Ally Batterson, Lydia DeKraai, Kaelin McCoy, and Avigail Cecak. Council moves forward on development agreements
The Bloomfield City Council Thursday night voted to begin the process of establishing development agreements with two Davis County companies that are expanding. Wilson Weiler of Metal Wholesale of West Grove, a metal roofing company, is seeking an agreement for $500,000 in tax abatements over a 10-year period for construction near the Bloomfield Municipal Airport.
Chase leads to minor accident, drug charges
Joshua Leroy McBurney, 37, of Des Moines is being held in Davis County Jail on a $30,000 cash-only bond after being involved in a vehicle pursuit on July 9. The pursuit, which began on Highway 63 near Bloomfield Livestock Market, resulted in a minor one-vehicle accident at the intersection of North and Washington Streets with no serious injuries being reported. The incident, however, led to multiple drug charges.
Mustangs end season with loss to Assumption
The Mustang baseball team ended its 2024 season last Friday night with a 15-0 loss to Assumption Davenport in the opening round of the Class 3A Tournament. Presley Cantrell and Brett Prevo led the offense with one hit each. Davis County finishes with a record of 9-23 overall and a 6-15 record in the South Central Conference.
