Changes are coming to Target department stores across Iowa and the rest of the country beginning on July 15th. To be fair...there's a good chance this change doesn't affect you at all. Target will stop taking a once-popular form of payment beginning next week, and there's a good chance it's been years or even decades since you've paid at a Target register using one of these.

Lake View Boil Advisory Ended
Lake View city officials announced this (Tuesday) morning that a boil advisory issued for residents along Black Hawk Lake’s southern shore has been lifted. The warning was issued over the weekend after the public works department had to temporarily shut off service for a water main repair, which necessitated the advisory due to the potential for contamination. Officials have since received two negative tests for bacterial infiltration and ended the advisory. Staff thanked residents for their patience and understanding during the order. E’Burg Schools Buy Land for New Elementary Building
–The Emmetsburg School Board recently approved purchasing approximately 24-acres of land that could be used as the site of a new elementary school. The undeveloped property sits east of Iowa Lakes Community College and south of College Drive in Emmetsburg. Superintendent Cory Jenness tells KLGA News that a recent review of the district’s facilities revealed that maintaining the West Elementary building for years to come would require a substantial investment.

Central Iowa is mourning the loss of a beloved community leader whose conservation efforts left a lasting mark on the city of Ames. Erwin “Erv” Klaas, 88, a former professor emeritus of animal ecology at Iowa State University, founder of Friends of Ada Hayden Heritage Park and a one-time Story County Citizen of the Year, passed away on Saturday, July 6, 2024.

Inside Out Wellness & Advocacy Welcomed to Perry Community with Ribbon Cutting
A local business within the Perry community recently held a ribbon cutting to show off their facility. The Perry Chamber of Commerce was at Inside Out Wellness & Advocacy Friday to celebrate the organization’s new Children’s Crisis Stabilization Center and Outpatient Mental Health Clinic in Perry. Bluejay Baseball Finishes with Most Wins Since 2016
Perry Baseball was eliminated last week in the Regional Quarterfinals. Grinnell beat the Bluejays 4-0. Perry finished the year at 11-18. 11 wins is the most for a Perry team since 2016. This is the second straight year the Bluejays finished with double digit wins. In conference play, they finished tied for 4th with a record of 6-8.
Glenwood interim superintendent arrives at 'destination district'
(Glenwood) -- New leadership is on board in the Glenwood School District. Nicole Kooiker took the helm as the district's interim superintendent earlier this month. Kooiker comes to Glenwood from the Cedar Rapids School District, where she served as deputy superintendent as well as an administrator at Roosevelt Middle School from 2020 until June 30th. Prior to her time in Cedar Rapids, she was superintendent and chief executive officer in the Ottumwa School District from 2016-2020, and before that, superintendent in the West Marshall district from 2013-16. She also served as a teacher and principal prior to her superintendent roles. Speaking on KMA's "Morning Line" program Monday morning, Kooiker says she considered Glenwood "a destination district."

As of 11:00 p.m., about 40,000 MidAmerican customers are currently without electric service due to tonight’s severe storm outbreak, including more than 31,000 in the Quad Cities metro area, just under 8,500 in the Des Moines metro area and about 90 in the Iowa City area.
