First Ever State Record Fish in Iowa
(Lewis) Starting January 1, there will be a new list of state record fish to attempt to get in addition to the original list. On Saturday morning, DNR Fisheries Biologist John Lorenzen’s DNR Report on KSOM, the state conservation commission, established a set of records of large Iowa fish caught by anglers in June 1962, thus beginning the official list of State Record Fish. Interestingly, the first record submitted was from a seven-pound, four-ounce, 22.5-inch largemouth bass caught at Cold Springs Park southwest of Lewis.

Woman arrested after leaving son in SUV
SANBORN—A 28-year-old Melvin woman was arrested about 6 p.m. Thursday, July 11, on charges of reckless driving and child endangerment. The arrest of Felicia Renee Morales stemmed from an incident that day on Highway 18 near Starling Avenue, about three miles east of Sanborn, according to the O’Brien County Sheriff’s Office.
Lake View Boil Advisory Ended
Lake View city officials announced this (Tuesday) morning that a boil advisory issued for residents along Black Hawk Lake’s southern shore has been lifted. The warning was issued over the weekend after the public works department had to temporarily shut off service for a water main repair, which necessitated the advisory due to the potential for contamination. Officials have since received two negative tests for bacterial infiltration and ended the advisory. Staff thanked residents for their patience and understanding during the order. E’Burg Schools Buy Land for New Elementary Building
–The Emmetsburg School Board recently approved purchasing approximately 24-acres of land that could be used as the site of a new elementary school. The undeveloped property sits east of Iowa Lakes Community College and south of College Drive in Emmetsburg. Superintendent Cory Jenness tells KLGA News that a recent review of the district’s facilities revealed that maintaining the West Elementary building for years to come would require a substantial investment.
