New law aims to address environmental impacts of wake surfing in Maine
MAINE, USA — Earlier this year, a new law was enacted to help protect the shorelines of Maine's lakes and ponds, which are home to several small birds and animals. Wake surfing, the act of being pulled on a board by a high-powered boat and riding the waves that the boat generates, is the focus of that law, LD 2284.
Woman killed in crash on Route 26 in Oxford
OXFORD, Maine — A woman from Norway died after a crash on Route 26 in Oxford. Police say Trudy Giroux, 65, was leaving the parking lot of the Irving gas station just before 9 a.m. to head north on Route 26 when she pulled into the path of a pickup truck headed south.

Rochester man gets 7-year sentence for meth distribution
CONCORD — Felix Urrutia, 51, of Rochester was sentenced Wednesday to seven years in prison after pleading guilty to multiple methamphetamine distribution charges, according to Jane Young, U.S. attorney for New Hampshire. Urrutia was sentenced by U.S. District Court Judge Paul J. Barbadoro, also receiving three years of supervised release after serving the prison sentence. Maine Man Who Killed His Girlfriend in 2022 Sentenced
A Maine man will spend several decades in prison for the murder of his girlfriend in Lewiston in 2022. Eddie Massie, 40, from Lewiston was charged with murder for the death of his girlfriend, Lacresha Howard, 24, also of Lewiston. He was sentenced this week to 30 years in prison.
