Valerie J. Lewis Coleman, a dedicated advocate for diversity in children’s literature and a seasoned educator with over 20 years of experience, is set to host the eagerly anticipated When I See Me™ BIPOC Children’s Book Fair.

Scheduled for Saturday, July 27, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the West Branch Library, 300 Abbey Avenue, Dayton, OH 45417, this vibrant event aims to be a delightful and enriching experience for children up to twelve years old, as well as for parents, teachers, and child advocates.

The When I See Me™ BIPOC Children’s Book Fair will feature 17 talented authors showcasing books that highlight black and brown characters, providing children with stories in which they can see themselves.

The goal is to foster a love for reading and help children avoid the summer slide.

Thanks to generous sponsors, children will enjoy exciting giveaways such as Chick-Fil-A gift cards, drawstring bags, writing journals, sweet treats, and more.

The book fair will also offer interactive activities designed to engage young minds and inspire a lifelong love of reading. A complete list of sponsors is available at bit.ly/2024WISM.

Valerie proudly announces that donations to her organization’s A Book in Every Bag initiative have exceeded $3,000, ensuring that every child attending the fair will leave with a book of their choice from one of the featured authors.

Aspiring children’s book authors are invited to attend engaging panel discussions where featured authors will share insights, tips, and their personal journeys in writing and publishing children’s books.

This is a golden opportunity to get inspired and gain valuable knowledge from experienced professionals.

The When I See Me™ BIPOC Children’s Book Fair is more than just an event—it’s a celebration of culture, diversity, and the joy of reading.

Families, friends, and students are encouraged to join for a day filled with fun, learning, and community spirit.
