DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) — The Greene County Sheriff’s Office is alerting residents to a warrant scam.

According to the Greene County Sheriff’s Office, an unknown individual is calling residents pretending to be from the office. During the call, the caller tells the resident there is an active warrant on file for the individual, which can be resolved by sending money.

Local woman’s phone call takes dark turn

The scammer has been known to request up to $8,000 but could be “resolved instantly” if the resident pays $2,000. To make the payments, residents are asked to go to a nearby county.

It is important to remember that law enforcement organizations will not call you demanding money. They will also never call you and tell you there is a warrant out for your arrest.

Residents that receive a call are asked to not provide any payment or personal information. You are encouraged to hang up the phone and dial your local police department.
