    Animal Resource Center warns of ‘lost pet’ scam

    DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) — Scammers are once again attempting to manipulate people for their own personal gain.

    The Montgomery County Animal Resource Center took to social media to warn residents of a scam centered on the premise of a lost pet.

    According to their post, the scammer will call the resident, claiming to be with the Animal Resource Center, and inform them that they have found their lost pet. The scammer will then tell the resident that in order to recover their pet they must first verify a code that will be sent to them.

    The Montgomery County Animal Resource Center will always ask that residents come by the shelter to identify their lost pet. The center says that residents who receive an illegitimate call or message should hang up and call their direct line at 937-898-4457 for inquiries.

    Last year, the Animal Resource Center warned residents of a similar scam .
