DAYTON — The Rhea County Boys and Girls Club will hold a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Wednesday, June 26, from 1 to 2 p.m.

The event will be held at the club’s location on Fourth Avenue in downtown Dayton at the Chattanooga State building.

Event organizers said the purpose of the event is to celebrate the opening of the Rhea County Boys and Girls Club, introduce the new facility to the community and recognize supporters and donors.

“We’re very excited to celebrate the opening of the new club and recognize all the hard work done by local staff, regional Boys and Girls Club staff, donors and supporters,” Rhea County Boys and Girls Club Unit Director Nicki Bentley said. “There were lots of people that came together to make this a reality for our local unit, and we want celebrate them and say thank you.”

The event will feature light refreshments as well as brief remarks from local officials and a short tour of the facility, event organizers said.

The Rhea County Boys and Girls Club has been open since late May, and on opening day, the club set attendance records across the Ocoee Region.

Rhea County Boys and Girls Club Board of Directors President Dustin Henderson said on opening day, the local club had 36 children in attendance.

“Opening day went fantastic,” Henderson said. “We had 36 in attendance, and that turned out to be a record attendance for any opening day across the Ocoee Region that covers six counties and 17 different clubs. We can’t thank the community enough for being so supportive to get this club off the ground. The good news is the best is yet to come!”

Community support, donors and city government officials, Bentley said, were also instrumental in getting the club up and running.

“We really couldn’t have done it without the community and everyone’s support,” she said. “The Rhea County community and the regional Boys and Girls Club really came together to make this something special.”
