Eight new restaurants opened for business in the month of June, while only two closed , marking a positive trend for the area's dining scene.

New establishments are serving some unique offerings ranging from deep-fried favorites and sauce-smothered bites to sweet treats and more. So, if you’re looking for breakfast , lunch, or dinner , check out the latest restaurants and cafés in the Volusia-Flagler region.

Aguadulce Colombian Café

Aguadulce Colombian Café announced its soft opening in the final weeks of June. The new South Daytona shop’s menu features pure Colombian coffee and a variety of sweet and savory snacks, including homemade empanadas and guava pastries, alongside several sandwich options. Beverages include Café con Leche, espresso, café Colombiano, fruit juices, iced matcha lattes and frappes.

Dick’s Last Resort

Dick’s Last Resort opened its first Volusia restaurant on the second floor of Daytona Beach’s Ocean Walk Shoppes last month. The rowdy chain, which currently operates two other Florida locations (with more to come), serves “food and drinks with a side of sarcasm.” Menu options range from barbecue, steak and pasta plates to seafood, nachos and other shareable finger foods.

Imli Indian Kitchen and Bar

Imli Indian Kitchen and Bar opened shop midway through June at the former location of Millie’s North in Ormond Beach and offers mainly traditional, South Indian cuisine with a modern American touch and a full bar. The roadside restaurant’s menu ranges from Tandoori meats and traditional curries with customers’ choice of lamb, goat, chicken or other proteins, to vegan dishes, appetizers like masala fries and various homemade desserts.

Island Flavaz Restaurant

Island Flavaz , located within Palm Coast’s City Market Place, opened shop at the start of June. The Jamaican favorite originally opened its doors in 2020 at 909 N. Ocean Shore Blvd. in Flagler Beach before closing its doors in 2022 following the effects of Hurricane Ian. Island Flavaz boasts a vast menu of traditional Jamaican comfort foods like oxtail, Ackee, saltfish and jerk chicken. It also serves up homemade juices, soursop punch and Jamaican soda.

Lilly Rose Café

Lilly Rose Café re-opened shop at a brand-new Edgewater location last month, after closing the doors to its previous New Smyrna Beach location in late January. The local café offers everything from smoothies — like the banana date shake and strawbeety; fresh pressed juices; and rotating daily soups; to acai bowls and grab-and-go goodies — including wraps, salads and cookies. Vegan and gluten-free menu options are available.

My Greek Taverna

My Greek Taverna announced its soft opening in Deltona in the final weeks of June. According to its Facebook page , the family-owned restaurant offers “an authentic taste of Greece” with Taverna specialties that include moussaka, lamb chops, spinach- and feta-stuffed chicken, pork souvlaki and gyros, among many other options.

Sam’s Coal Fired Pizza

Sam’s Coal Fired Pizza had said last month that it would be temporarily closing shop until February 2005 due to construction along the popular beach access point where it is located. However, in the final days of June, the pizzeria announced its reopening, with the promise of various promotions, including an all-you-can-eat pasta night on July 3.

"Parking is available on Davis Ave and Grandview," the eatery said in a recent Facebook post . "Also if you are doing pickups, just park by the construction fence and give us a call and we can bring out your order."

Stoked Poke, Ormond Beach

Stoked Poke opened its newest restaurant in Ormond Beach last month and currently operates two other locations in Port Orange and Daytona Beach. The fast-casual eatery serves an identical menu of customizable poke and acai bowls that customers have come to know and love since Stoked Poke’s start in 2018, as well as several signature poke bowls, including the top-selling Lowers Bowl, various street tacos and super fruit bowls.

Agave II Fresh Mex & Cantina

Agave II, located within the Tuscan Village Shoppes in Port Orange, closed its doors in June. Curious customers were met with a sign taped to the door, noting that the Mexican restaurant would be closed until further notice for renovations. Staff from the eatery confirmed Agave II's closure to The News-Journal last week.

Stoked Poke Flagler

701 N. Ocean Shore Blvd., Flagler Beach; 386-481-0593, stoked-poke.com

Stoked Poke’s sole Flagler County location appears to have closed its shop at 701 N. Ocean Shore Blvd. in Flagler Beach, less than one year after its August 2023 opening. The popular poke spot is listed as permanently closed on Google, and the Flagler location has been removed from Stoked Poke’s website and Instagram page.

Stoke Poke did not respond to questions from The News-Journal prior to the publishing of this article — which will be updated should further information become available. Happily, there are locations in Port Orange, Daytona Beach and Ormond Beach.
