HAGERSTOWN, Md. ( DC News Now ) — Hagerstown native Aaron Brooks will be competing for a Bronze medal Friday.

While Brooks won’t be coming home from Paris with a Gold medal in Olympic wrestling, throngs of hometown supporters turned out to see him compete against Bulgarian Magomed Ramazanov at watch parties across town.

Brooks is a graduate of North Hagerstown High School and holds several NCAA wrestling titles from his time at Penn State.

The Hagerstown community could not be more proud.

“His hometown is so proud of him,” said an emotional Tracy Bryan at a Primanti Brothers watch party at Valley Mall. “It’s just unbelievable that this young man has been able to accomplish what he has and get to the Olympics.”

Brooks is the first Olympian from Washington County since 1932 when Richard Bachtell competed in weightlifting.
