FREDERICK COUNTY, Md. ( DC News Now ) — Frederick County has announced that the Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development awarded the county with $500,000 to renovate the Bell Court Senior Apartments.

This came after a grant was awarded through the Community Development Block Grant Program (CDBG). Officials said the money would be used to make improvements at the senior living apartment complex to help ensure residents a high quality of life.

Bell Court has 28 units and is located in the Woodsboro community. It was built in 1996 through the Maryland Partnership Rental Housing Program.

But, with the new grant, the apartments are getting a new look.

The county said the money will be used to replace heating and air conditioning systems in each apartment and the community center, install accessible showers in residents’ bathrooms, repair sidewalks, and replace the floors in each apartment.

“Hopes are that they are very comfortable as they age in place here, that we have addressed their need, that they’ve enjoyed what we’ve done, they appreciate and that they will be comfortable in their home,” said Susan Brown, with the Frederick County Division of Housing.
