    Alexandria man arrested for grand larceny, causing high school lockdown, police say

    FAIRFAX, Va. ( DC News Now ) — Police in Fairfax City said they arrested a man they believe was involved in shoplifting from a store, causing a nearby high school to go on lockdown on Tuesday afternoon.

    The City of Fairfax Police Department responded to Fair City Mall just before 1 p.m. right after a shoplifting incident happened. Officers and Fire Marshals found 41-year-old Kodjo Banks, of Alexandria, near 9600 Main Street with a shopping cart full of merchandise.

    Banks fled from officers and entered Woodson High School through an unlocked door.

    Officers set up a perimeter around the school and the school went into full lockdown. School security and police officers found the suspect inside and arrested him.

    Police said Banks was wanted by Fairfax County for Petit Larceny.

    He was taken to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center where he was served with his outstanding warrants and additionally charged with Grand Larceny and Obstruction of Justice..

    Banks is being held without bond.
