The best place to get a sandwich in every state, according to Yelp

(NEXSTAR) – We Americans just love cramming our faces with sandwiches.

Whether it’s a banh mi, a chopped cheese, a sloppy joe or a Monte Cristo, we simply can’t resist grabbing a sandwich loaded with any combination of meats and cheeses, and then cramming that sandwich right down our gullets.

But with so many sandwich shops competing for our business, where can we find the best sandwiches to cram? Lucky for us, the analysts at Yelp have scoured their extensive database of online reviews to compile a list of the site’s top-rated places for sandwich-crammin’ in every U.S. state.

It should be noted, however, that some of the shops featured on Yelp’s list may serve fare that seems inconsistent with the sandwiches we assume they’re cramming in each state. For instance, Yelp’s top-rated sandwich spot in Pennsylvania doesn’t serve cheesesteaks, and not a single one of the entries from New England has a lobster roll on the menu.

This might be because Yelp’s analysts focused on eateries with high concentrations of the word “sandwich” in the reviews rather than terms like “cheesesteak” or “roll” (or “po’ boy” or “French dip” or “hoagie,” etc.), according to the methodology. (A representative for Yelp ultimately confirmed that analysis looked only at the “specified keyword” — “sandwiches” — to determine the results.)

In any case, every entry on Yelp’s list has achieved a rating of at least 4.5 stars out of 5, meaning each shop is likely serving a few sandwiches worthy of a good cram.
