    PGPD searches for driver involved in deadly hit-and-run in Oxon Hill

    PRINCE GEORGE’S COUNTY, Md. ( DC News Now ) — The Prince George’s County Police Department (PGPD) is asking for the community’s help in searching for the driver of a truck that hit and killed a pedestrian in Oxon Hill on Aug. 16.

    Police said that on Friday around noon, officers responded to the 6200 block of Oxon Hill Road after a vehicle struck a pedestrian. There, officers found 35-year-old Melvin Garcia, of Oxon Hill, suffering from trauma in a parking lot.

    He died at the scene.

    According to PGPD, their investigation revealed that the driver hit Garcia and then drove away.

    Detectives believe the truck is a 2002-2006 silver Chevrolet Avalanche. It might have damage to the front bumper and to the driver’s side headlight.

    The crash remains under investigation.
